Holiday Cocktails: Cran-Rosemary Shrub

Every year, my friends and I go to this amazing ranch in Montana. We land in Missoula, then do a frenzied shopping trip at the Good Food Store and then venture out to our ranch for 3-4 days where we cook, hike, sit around the fire and just enjoy an amazing place.

Inevitably, our frenzied shopping trip leaves us with things that we should have bought but didn't - OR - things we bought but didn't really need. When this happens, we have a "Quick Fire" style challenge on our hands. In the first scenario, you must find ingredients to make a equivalent substitute using the various leftover pantry items and other items that you brought with you.

In the second scenario, you may have an extra ingredient without a purpose. You must create something delicious with the excess.

On this trip, we had an extra bag of cranberries and a shortage of cocktail syrups and liqueurs. I foraged around the kitchen and found the required ingredients for this cocktail ingredient. And thus the Cran-Rosemary Shrub was created.

First, I gathered my fresh cranberries, my fresh rosemary sprig, vinegars, sugar and the orange.

Then I added all ingredients into a sauce pan.

Then cooked the ingredients for 15 minutes on medium heat or until the cranberries are bursting.

Strain off and let cool. Then cocktails!
